Terumbu Tiga | Perhentian Dive Site 5
A more challenging dive it takes you around an area of Pulau Besar where the monsoon winds have prized boulders from the cliffs. The position of these giant rocks under the water leaves large gaps to swim through and deep canyons to swim along. The site is rich in soft coral, sea whips and fans, for the macro fans there are cleaner shrimp and nudibranchs galore. Hard corals can be found above 12m and support a large reef fish population. For the less adventurous it is still an excellent site to swim around without doing the swim-throughs. Suitable for all diver levels.
Teluk Dalam (Shark Point) | Perhentian Dive Site 8
A shallow dive reaching a maximum depth of 10m this is the best location for seeing the blacktip sharks and turtles especially in the early morning or late afternoon. It is also home to a lionfish, puffer fish, porcupine fish and crocodile needlefish amongst others. It takes approx 15minutes to reach this location by speedboat and is perfect for those who want an easy introduction to diving or those who really want to see sharks.
Teluk Kerma (D'Lagoon) | Perhentian Dive Site 11
Only 10 minutes by fast boat, its sheltered bay is an ideal location for either snorkeling or diving, this site has a shallow sandy area at 5m surrounded by the crest of the reef which extends 45m south towards Long Beach and all the way along the coast line north to connect to Panglima Abu. The deepest point is 18m but the majority of the diving is at 12m. This site is especially good for looking for the Jenkins Whip rays, seeing the Bumphead parrotfish and Moray Eels. Suitable for all levels.
Panglima Abu | Perhentian Dive Site 13
A line of Rocks leading westwards off the north of Pulau Kecil it reaches 25m at its deepest point and is exposed above the water line at the surface. Only 5mins by boat. The two sides are dramatically different clearly displaying the difference in nutrients available in the water. A site rich in nudibranchs, tube worms, anemone shrimp and fish, moray eels and reef fish it also attracts black tips, Cobia (King fish), turtles and whiprays. Suitable for all levels.
Sea Bell Rock | Perhentian Dive Site 14
Located 1km off Coral Bay it is a beautiful dive and snorkel site. With the sand level at 18m, 16m and 10m it is suitable for all divers. The sand bottom is home to many Rays, including blue spotted, Jenkins Whiprays and many more, the rocks provide a home for White Eyed and Giant Morays. The crest of the reef provides a colourful nursery for many species of juvenile fish and homes and food for larger species, most commonly Parrotfish, Angelfish, Fusiliers, and Trevally. The variety of fish species here brings in the Blacktip Sharks from time to time.
Pulau Seringih | Perhentian Dive Site 17
The southern most of the small group of islands between Kecil and the mainland, it offers the best drift diving in the Perhentians, pristine coral slopes down the sea bed from 3m to 18m. Often Bumpheads, blacktips, and giant barracuda can be seen, it is also rich in squid, octopus and crustaceans. This dive can also be made on high tide with little or no current for those macro or photo enthusiasts
Susu Dara Kecil | Perhentian Dive Site 21
Protected by the giant Susu Dara Besar the small island has a quiet calm coral garden, because of the lack of strong currents there are less fish here but the coral formations are still stunning, often turtles and bumpheads graze on the shallower areas close to the island. Excellent for hunting out some of the rarer nudibranch species, crabs and shrimp.
Tokong Laut (Temple of the Sea) | Perhentian Dive Site 22
Temple, probably the most famous site in Perhentian, a rocky pinnacle rising up from the sea bed at 26m to just above the surface. Situated in the channel between the islands and peninsular Malaysia the waters are rich in nutrients which gives rise to a huge diversity of fish life. Blacktip reef sharks are commonly seen hunting the schools of fusiliers, squid transiently pass by and bamboo sharks are to be found sleeping in rocky crevasses.
Susu Dara Besar | Perhentian Dive Site 23
The largest in the group of islands between Kecil and the mainland Susu Dara Besar is only 15-20 minutes by speedboat. This is a shallow dive above 12m , and this site is very fishy, with wide diversity of species and large schools of rabbitfish, fusiliers, yellow tail barracuda. With very little current this is a great location for photography
Pauh Reef | Perhentian Dive Site 27
A totally submerged site the crest is at 7m and the bottom at 18m it has dramatic coral formations to swim around, because of the growth patterns of the coral pillars there is network of tunnels running through this site so it is especially good for finding Groupers. It is also a nursery for juvenile barracuda with a resident school seen on every dive. It is rich in macro life, with tubeworms, nudibranchs and sailors eyeball algae. Also commonly found are Surgeon fish and titan triggerfish.
Sugar Wreck | Perhentian Dive Site 29
Sugar Wreck, a 70m long, 12m wide cargo ship carrying sugar, sank in the monsoon of 2001 with no hands lost. Situated in the channel between Pulau Kecil and the main land it lies at 18m and surrounded by sand. Despite her young age she has attracted all the marine life a diver could wish for, providing an ideal nursery for juvenile Chevron and Giant Barracuda , who now swarm in giant schools in and around the wreck, also there are schools of Makeral, Snapper and Trevally. It also provides a home to all the poisonous fish we have including, Lionfish , Scorpion fish and Stone fish. The wreck lies on her Starboard side with intact masts so good buoyancy control and diving skills are required to make this dive as safe and enjoyable as possible. Suitable for divers of PADI Advanced Level (or equivalent) and above.
